What should you pack for a Sorrento boat trip?

A useful boat-trip bag begins with the booking you have made. A coastal outing with a swim stop, a long visit ashore and a short sunset cruise call for different things. Aim for a compact bag that keeps essentials easy to find and your hands reasonably free while boarding. The object is to spend the day looking at the coast, rather than searching beneath three unnecessary towels.

Read the inclusions before opening the wardrobe

Check the exact option, duration, planned time ashore and the operator's instructions. Mark what is supplied and what you need to bring. The You Know! FAQ, for example, refers guests to their individual tour page for towel and drink inclusions. Its general packing advice includes comfortable shoes, sun protection and swimwear. Use that as a starting point, then adapt it to your actual departure.

Do not buy equipment merely because a photograph shows somebody using it. One private Capri product includes towels but treats snorkeling equipment separately. Another option may make different arrangements. Confirm any essential item directly with the operator. Our comparison of shared boats and private charters helps you make that check before settling on the format.

Keep the meeting information within reach

Save the voucher and precise meeting instructions somewhere you can open without searching through messages. Check whether your selected operator accepts a phone voucher or needs another format. Charge the phone before leaving and consider a compact power bank if you will rely on it throughout a long day. Keep electronics in a suitable protective pouch; avoid leaving them balanced on a seat edge when the boat moves.

Carry the booking provider's contact details separately from the map pin. A recognizable meeting-point description is useful if mobile reception is poor or a map places you on the wrong level of the waterfront. Read our guide to Marina Grande and Marina Piccola, then follow your own voucher's instructions. The harbor name alone may not identify the meeting point.

Dress for the journey and the time ashore

Choose comfortable footwear that works for boarding and the walking you expect to do after landing. Ask whether the crew has a footwear policy on board. If your plan includes town streets or a climb away from the harbor, choose for that portion too. Pack a light extra layer appropriate to the forecast so you can adjust between sitting still, moving through the air and walking on land.

A secure sunhat, sunglasses and your usual sun protection can be useful on an exposed outing. Keep loose accessories contained rather than dangling where they may catch or blow away. Decide what you can comfortably carry for the entire day, including the walk back to your accommodation. A small bag becomes much less convenient when it contains several heavy things you never use.

Pack swimming items only for a suitable plan

If swimming is an advertised possibility and something you want to do, bring suitable swimwear and any personal essentials the operator specifies. A separate pouch for damp clothing keeps the return journey simpler. Check towel provision before adding a bulky one. Ask about changing arrangements instead of assuming a small vessel has a private space suited to your needs.

Keep swimming expectations flexible. Follow the crew's instructions about when and where entering the water is appropriate, and tell the operator in advance about any participation needs. Choosing to remain aboard should also be discussed if the itinerary includes a long water-based activity. Packing something does not oblige you to use it.

Make room for ordinary needs

Check refreshments, meal arrangements and any rules about bringing food. If a particular snack matters to a child or you have dietary requirements, confirm the plan before departure. Carry water according to the duration and what the operator provides. A reusable bottle is practical when suitable refill arrangements are available. Keep rubbish contained until you can dispose of it properly ashore; a loose wrapper is surprisingly hard to retrieve once caught by the wind.

Traveling with a young child needs an extra conversation. The operator's FAQ asks guests to reconfirm a stroller and request a small child's lifejacket before boarding. Ask your selected operator about the appropriate equipment and space for your family. Our guide to planning around mobility needs offers further questions about boarding and the route ashore.

Finish with a short departure check

Before leaving, check messages from the operator, confirm the meeting time and put the voucher where it is accessible. Review the forecast and any revised instructions. Keep a simple Sorrento rain-day alternative in mind without assuming rain alone determines whether your departure operates. That decision belongs to the operator and crew.

Browse our boat-trip collection if you are still choosing, and read the selected option's requirements again before packing. Thoughtful preparation is quite modest: the right information, a few useful possessions and enough free space in the bag to find them.

For a trip that also includes city sightseeing, avoid carrying the boat bag unchanged into every outing. Our sister guide to planning transfers around a day in Naples can help you separate travel essentials from items useful only at sea. Repack for each day’s route, leaving bulky possessions safely at your accommodation when its storage arrangements allow.
